Director Sudha Kongara recently spoke to the media in Chennai about gender equality in the Tamil film industry. She said that today there is no difference between male and female directors and that only the director’s work and identity matter.
She added that big actors prefer a professional and gender neutral working environment which is why leading heroes continue to work with her.
Sudha also recalled that earlier there was a belief that women directors could make only light films, but said that mindset has now changed.
Her upcoming film Parasakthi set for a Pongal release, stars Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa, and Sreeleela and is set in the 1960s. The music is composed by G.V. Prakash, marking his 100th film.
To introduce the film’s world, an exhibition titled The World of Parasakthi has been set up at Valluvar Kottam in Chennai. Due to strong public response, the exhibition has been extended and may be taken to other cities.
